Youth Leadership Spotlight: Damian M.

From the Classroom to the National Stage

The Civic Education Center is proud to recognize Youth Service Council President Damian M. for a remarkable year of achievement, leadership, and service.

As a student leader, Damian exemplifies what it means to combine academic excellence with civic responsibility. While maintaining an impressive 4.55 GPA, Damian has earned recognition across multiple disciplines, demonstrating a commitment to both personal success and community impact.

His academic accomplishments include recognition for maintaining a 4.0+ GPA, participation in Science Fair, Science Olympiad, and serving as a member of an award-winning Academic Decathlon team. These achievements reflect not only academic talent but also the discipline, curiosity, and determination that have become hallmarks of his leadership.

Adding to his growing list of accomplishments, Damian recently received his Certificate of Pre-Admission to California State University, Fresno as a Bulldog Bound Scholar for Fall 2027. He was one of only a select number of students from his school to receive this prestigious recognition.

Beyond academics, Damian continues to serve as a leader within agricultural education. This year, he was reelected as Chapter Reporter for his FFA chapter, a testament to the trust and confidence his peers place in his leadership and communication skills.

One of Damian's most meaningful achievements this year was earning the California State Seal of Civic Engagement. The State Seal recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional commitment to civic participation, community involvement, and responsible citizenship.

Through his involvement with the Civic Education Center Youth Service Council, Damian has dedicated countless hours to civic learning, youth leadership, community service, and civic dialogue. His work has helped elevate youth voice and encourage student participation in addressing community challenges.

"Being recognized by my school means a lot to me," Damian shared. "This recognition represents more than just an award. It reflects years of commitment to service, leadership, and using my voice to make an impact in my community."

His leadership journey is now reaching a national audience.

This summer, Damian will represent the Civic Education Center and Fresno County on a national stage after being selected to present a Lightning Talk at the 37th Annual National Service-Learning Conference®, held in partnership with the 2026 Points of Light Conference in Washington, D.C.

During his presentation, Damian will share his experiences as President of the Civic Education Center Youth Service Council, highlighting the importance of youth voice, civic dialogue, and student-led action. His presentation will showcase how young people can become active participants in shaping stronger schools and communities.

This opportunity places Damian among educators, students, nonprofit leaders, and civic engagement professionals from across the nation and provides a platform to share the impact of youth-led civic engagement occurring right here in Fresno County.

Damian's achievements serve as a powerful reminder that today's students are not simply preparing to become future leaders—they are already leading.

The Civic Education Center congratulates Damian on his many accomplishments and looks forward to seeing the continued impact he will make in his school, community, and beyond.

We are grateful for the example he sets for other young people and proud to have him serving as President of the Youth Service Council.
